Signing up for SALSA is definitely one of the best things we as a company could have done. The quality assurance it provides demonstrates to food buyers and the public alike that our products remains at the highest standard, and that care and attention is taken throughout our manufacturing process.
What is SALSA Accreditation?
SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) https://www.salsafood.co.uk/ is recognised as the leading food safety certification scheme for the UK’s small food and drink producers.
The certification is a food-safety standard written by experienced food safety experts to reflect both the legal requirements of producers and the enhanced expectations of ‘best practice’ of professional food buyers.
SALSA is a non-profit making joint venture between four main trade associations representing the UK Food Chain. The Institute of Food Science and Technology operate the scheme throughout the UK. All of these bodies make up the independently chaired Governance Committee which oversee the SALSA scheme.
Accreditation is only granted to suppliers who are able to demonstrate to an auditor that they are able to produce safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA standard.
As a result, the scheme is widely accepted by both retailers and food service providers throughout the UK. Which is especially important as retail food and drink buyers often require that the food and beverage companies who supply them undertake SALSA accreditation before they will consider stocking their products.
